HC Deb 03 April 1979 vol 965 cc640-1W
Mr. Molloy

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he is satisfied with the liasion between employment centres and other interested bodies concerned with employment matters within the Greater London area.

Mr. Golding

I am satisfied that adequate machinery exists to permit and foster a close liaison between the various offices of the public employment service in the Greater London area.

The public employment service is administered by the Manpower Services Commission, which, through its employment service division, operates in the Greater London area approximately 100 jobcentres or employment offices. This network of offices is served by a relatively sophisticated and technically advanced telecommunication system which permits information about vancancies to be transmitted between all or any of these offices very rapidly—often within minutes and certainly within hours.

Additionally the careers service, which serves particularly the needs of school-leavers, operates a network of offices administered by the various local authorities; this service is co-ordinated by the Department of Employment, and close links are established between offices of the careers service and those of the Manpower Services Commission.
