How many immigrants were accepted for work in the United Kingdom during the latest year for which statistics are available, and how many of these came from the New Commonwealth and Pakistan.

The total number of work permit holders admitted to the United Kingdom in 1978 was published in Table VI of Issue 2/79 of the Home Office Statistical Bulletin, issued on 26th March 1979, a copy of which is in the Library of the House. The number of citizens of New Commonwealth countries and Pakistan so admitted was given in Table VIII of that Bulletin.
