asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will give the total number of New Commonwealth and Pakistani immigrants who have been accepted for settlement from 1950 until 1978, together with the figures for each individual year.

Citizens of New Commonwealth countries were not subject to immigration control before 1 July 1962. During the period 1 July 1962 to 31 December 1978 a total of 814,000 citizens of New Commonwealth countries and Pakistan were accepted far settlement on arrival or on removal of the time limit attached to their stay here. The annual figures for 1962 to 1966 are given below.
