§ Mr. Litterickasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what improvements in the provision of health care facilities have been made in the city of Birmingham since 1974.
§ Mr. MoyleDuring the period of 1 April 1974 to 31 March 1978, £9,040,000 has been spent by the Birmingham area health authority (teaching) completing major projects. These included:
- Selly Oak hospital—New ward block; 244 beds, ITU, HSSU, four theatres.
- Birmingham general hospital—New ward block and accident department.
- East Birmingham hospital—New ward block; 398 beds, ITU, three theatres.
- Dudley Road hospital—Geriatric department; 176 beds and day hospital.
- Highcroft hospital—84 beds—geriatric—and day unit.
New health centres have opened at Stetchford, Bartley Green, Woodgate Valley and Landsowne Street.
In addition, a number of minor projects, such as the upgrading of wards, have been undertaken to improve the quality of services to patients.
