§ Mr. Gouldasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is his estimate of the benefit to authorities in England of the development land tax concession in respect of (a) land purchased under the Community Land Act and (b) other land purchases.
§ Mr. Denzil Davies, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 29 March 1979; Vol. 965, c. 326], gave the following answer:
The total benefit to local authorities in England, based on notifications to the development land tax office up to 31 December 1978, is £14 million. It is not possible to distinguish land purchases under the community land scheme from other land purchases. However, information provided to the Department of the Environment by local authorities indicates that the benefit on acquisitions under the community land scheme up to 31 March 1978 is of the order of £4 million.
