§ Mr. OrmeThe amount paid in death grants in 1977–78, the latest period for570W which a firm figure is available, was £15,128,000. It is estimated that £16 million will have been paid in 1978–79. Under the provision of the Social Security Act 1979 my right hon. Friend has to review the level of the death grant each year to determine whether it has retained its value in relation to the general level of earnings or prices. Whether the level of the grant can be increased will, however, depend on the availability of resources
