HC Deb 03 April 1979 vol 965 cc684-7W
Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the total increment in addition to salary given to consultants for domiciliary visits in England in 1978.

Mr. Moyle

Details of the amounts received by individual consultants over and above their salaries are not available. The total number of domiliary visits carried out by consultants in England for the 12 month period ending 30 September 1978 amounted to 397,852.

Consultants undertake these visits to a patient's home at the request of his general practitioner, where advice and diagnosis have been sought in this way because, on medical grounds, the patient cannot attend hospital.

The basic fee for each visit is currently £12.30 and the maximum remuneration a consultant can receive in any one year from undertaking domiciliary visits is £3,690.

Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will publish in the Official Report the numbers of consultants who made domiciliary visits fewer than 50, between 50 and 100, between 100 and 150, between 150 and 200 and over 200 in the last year within the North-West Thames region.

Mr. Moyle

The number of consultants who carried out domiliary consultations—by number of consultations—in the North-West Thames region in the year ended 30 September 1978, was as follows:

Number of consultations Number of consultants
1 to 49 267
50 to 100 57
101 to 150 25
151 to 200 11
Over 200 15
Total 375

Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will publish in the Official Report a table showing the number of domiciliary visits by consultants in the North-West Thames regional health authority for the last year, divided into specialties.
