Mr. Jim Callaghan

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how much of the increased expenditure allowances in the current year is being spent on the arts in the North-West region.

Mr. Oakes

The value of grants and services provided by the Arts Council, the British Film Institute and the Crafts Advisory Committee to the North-West region in 1979–80 is expected to be about £2.1 million. This total excludes local authority expenditure.
