HC Deb 02 April 1979 vol 965 cc490-1W
Mr. Trotter

asked the Secretary of State for Industry how many members of the shipbuilding, ship repairing and related industries have applied for payments under the shipbuilding redundancy scheme; how many applicants have been paid; what is the longest period since an as yet unpaid applicant submitted his claim; and what is delaying the payments.

Mr. Les Huckfield

British Shipbuilders has received about 4,600 applications for payment since the scheme came into operation on 3 August 1978, of which some 2,260 related to redundancies which had occurred between 1 July 1977 and that date. Payments have been made in 2,876 cases. The majority of unsettled cases relate to current applications made in advance of the due date of payment. A small number of earlier applications are still outstanding pending establishment of individual details of eligibility.
