HC Deb 02 April 1979 vol 965 cc538-9W
Mr. Shepherd

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment when he will publish the findings of the public inquiries into footpaths in the Ross and Whitchurch and Hereford rural areas of Herefordshire; and, if he is unable to give a firm date, if he will make a statement as to the reasons for the delays.

Mr. Shore

The inspector's report of the Ross and Whitchurch inquiry is still being processed within the Department. Many of the issues raised are complex and will require reference to the Department's legal advisers. Staff resources for this work are scarce and I am, therefore, unable to forecast when a decision is likely to be issued.

The inspector's report of the Hereford city and rural district inquiry has only been received in the Department within the last few weeks and is subject to the same problem of staff resources. I am, therefore, unable to forecast when a decision might be issued.
