§ Mr. Gordon Wilsonasked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will publish, from the international sources available to him, the proportion of the gross national product spent on defence in each of the EEC member States, each of the Scandinavian nations, Switzerland and Austria.
§ Dr. GilbertI refer the hon. Member to Cmnd. 7474 which shows, in Chapter One, figure 5, the latest information available, from NATO sources, for members of the Alliance. The proportions shown are in terms of gross domestic product. Similar official information is not available for other countries; however, the honourable member may wish to consult Chapter Two, table 4, of "The Military Balance 1978–1979" published by the International Institute for Strategic Studies.
