asked the Secretary of State for Scotland by how much bus fares have risen in Scotland since February 1974; and by how much they rose between June 1970 and February 1974.

For bus services operated by the Scottish Bus Group the increase in average fare levels approved by the traffic commissioners between February 1974 and March 1978 was 197 per cent.; between June 1970 and February 1974 the average increase was 29 per cent. For bus services in the four major cities the average increase from February 1974 to date was 76 per cent.; between June 1970 and February 1974 the increase was 35 per cent. No figures are available for buses operated by independent companies.
