Mr. Geoffrey Finsberg

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will list in respect of both the employment office areas within each Greater London borough and in respect of the area of each London borough the figures of unemployed persons registered in March 1974 September 1974 and September 1978, or the latest available date.

Mr. Golding

The following table gives the numbers of people registered as unemployed in the employment office areas which most closely correspond to the London boroughs. Some employment office areas are substantial components of more than one borough and have been shown more than once. For this reason the figures for the boroughs cannot be added together to give a total for the whole of Greater London.

Mr. Lawson

asked the Secretary of State for Employment (1) what was the seasonally adjusted rate of unemployment in each of the first three quarters of the current year, and in the last three-month period for which figures are available, in the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Canada, Japan, France, Italy and West Germany, using (a) national definitions and (b) United States' definitions;

(2) if he will provide estimates of percentage unemployment rates, adjusted to United States' concepts, for the second quarter of 1978 in each of the following countries: the United Kingdom, the United States of America, France,
