HC Deb 24 October 1978 vol 955 c808W
Mr. Lawson

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what representations he has made to the Nigerian Government concerning its intention to restrict imports.

Mr. Meacher

None, because the restrictions—which relate mainly to consumer goods—are applied non-discriminatorily and because action to bring Nigerian imports into better balance with reduced earnings from oil was clearly urgent and necessary to strengthen the economy of one of the United Kingdom's most important markets.
