HC Deb 24 October 1978 vol 955 c855W
Mr. Sainsbury

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the increase in house prices in the south-east region, excluding Greater London, in the latest 12-month period for which a figure is available, and since January 1978, respectively.

Mr. Armstrong

Statistics on average regional dwelling prices are obtained from a quarterly 5 per cent. sample survey of building society mortgages at mortgage completion stage. The increase in the average dwelling price in the South-East region—excluding Greater London—in the year ending the second quarter of 1978—the latest period for which information is available—was 9.4 per cent. and between the first and second quarters of 1978 was 2.4 per cent.
