HC Deb 24 October 1978 vol 955 c759W
Mr. Lomas

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will set up a committee to inquire into the export of live animals, and the conditions under which such animals are compelled to travel.

Mr. Strang

The export trade in live food animals was fully investigated by the O'Brien Committee which reported in 1974 and more recently by the Agriculture Departments whose report was published in March this year. The Government have no evidence to suggest that an examination of the welfare aspects of the export trade in other species is necessary at the present time.
