§ 46. Mr. Dykesasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many foreign nationals and citizens of Commonwealth countries are currently known to his Department to be applying officially for naturalisation.
§ Mr. John:Some 35,000 applications for citizenship of the United Kingdom and Colonies are currently under consideration. Of these, approximately 9,000 are for naturalisation from foreign nationals and British protected persons, and 26,000 for registration from Commonwealth citizens, British subjects without citizenship, and citizens of the Republic of Ireland.
