HC Deb 29 November 1978 vol 959 c258W
Mr. Michael Latham

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the current membership of the Construction Industry Manpower Board; what is its present and future programme of work; and for how long he intends to keep it in existence.

Mr. Freeson:

The current membership of the Construction Industry Manpower Board (CIMB) is:

  • Sir William Harris (Chairman).
  • Mr. F. J. Chappie.
  • Mr. R. Cowan.
  • Mr. G. Henderson.
  • Mr. P. F. Jerrard.
  • Mr. R. A. Jones.
  • Mr. K. McAlpine.

I am in touch with the TUC about a replacement for Sir George Smith who died recently and who gave such valuable service to the board.

The board is helping to launch the employers voluntary registration scheme by establishing registration criteria, by monitoring progress, and by taking the lead in working towards a solution to the problems of setting up a third register for specialist sub-contractors. In accordance with its first term of reference the board will continue to review the effects of the construction industry tax deduction scheme. I agreed in July that the board should continue for at least a further 12 months.
