asked the Secretary of State for Trade what steps he is taking to encourage British shipowners to order replacement tonnage with British shipyards on a scrap and build basis.

Mr. Clinton Davis:

The International Maritime Industries Forum—IMIF—is expected shortly to submit proposals for an international scrap and build scheme, which will be carefully considered by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Industry and myself.
