HC Deb 27 November 1978 vol 959 c32W
Dr. Hampson

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science, with reference to the remarks of the Minister of State, Official Report, 3rd November, column 462, if she will publish the evidence to support the statement that more advanced education is provided in non-polytechnic institutions of higher education than in the 30 polytechnics.

Mr. Oakes:

I had in mind our latest figures for advanced course enrolments in the non-university sector, which relates to November 1976. They show a total in all relevant institutions in England and Wales of 240,208 full-time equivalent students, of whom 119,194, representing 49.6 per cent., were in polytechnics and 121,104, representing 50.4 per cent., were in other institutions.
