HC Deb 27 November 1978 vol 959 c93W
Mr. Pardoe

asked the Secretary of State for Transport (1) what estimate he has made of the average number of miles driven in a year by private cars in rural areas, urban areas and Cornwall, respectively;

(2) what proportion of private motorists in Cornwall will be better off after the replacement of the vehicle excise duty by a 20p increase in the tax on petrol.

Mr. William Rodgers:

I regret that the available data do not provide reliable estimates for individual counties.
