HC Deb 27 November 1978 vol 959 cc8-9W
Mr. Lee

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he intends to permit the entry into the United Kingdom of any persons accompanying Mr. Richard Milhous Nixon; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Merlyn Rees:

The question of admission will be considered in the usual way under the immigration rules at the time of arrival.

Mr. Lee

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he intends to provide any special police protection or assistance to Mr. Richard Milhous Nixon on the occasion of his visit to the United Kingdom at the end of November; and, if so, who is to bear the cost of such policing.

Mr. Merlyn Rees:

The question whether or not police protection arrangements are appropriate is an operational matter for the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis to determine. The cost of any such arrangements would fall on the Metropolitan Police Fund.
