HC Deb 27 November 1978 vol 959 c86W
Mr. MacGregor

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what are the targets of the De Lorean car company in Belfast for sales in its first and next two years of operation, and in which markets;.and what commercial and marketing studies were undertaken as to the viability of these targets prior to the decision to back this project with Government aid.

Mr. Concannon:

The De Lorean Motor Company has announced production and sales targets of 20,000 cars in its first full year of production, increasing to 30,000 by the third year. The United States market is expected to account for about 80 per cent of the sales, with the remainder being. sold in Western Europe and Canada. The projections derive from comprehensive studies carried out by reputable American industrial and marketing consultants. Before reaching its decision to provide assistance the Government also took into account an assessment of the project by independent consultants.
