HC Deb 27 November 1978 vol 959 cc27-8W
Mr. Kenneth Clarke

asked the Attorney-General what inquiries have been made into the effects that the introduction of a system of fixed listing of cases has had on the waiting time between committal and trial for criminal cases in the Crown court in the Midlands; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Arthur Davidson:

My noble Friend the Lord Chancellor keeps under review the listing of cases in the Crown court and the waiting time between committal and trial. There is no evidence that the"advance notice'" system of listing used on the Midland and Oxford circuit and elsewhere has affected waiting times but my noble Friend will investigate any particular case of delay, should the hon. Member wish to write to him.
