§ Dr. GilbertPrior to the introduction of the new arrangements under the Representation of the People (Armed Forces) Act 1976, 25 per cent. of Service personnel were registered to vote. It is estimated that 37 per cent. of Service personnel and 33 per cent. of Service spouses were registered on the first electoral roll under the new arrangements. A continuing improvement can be expected on future rolls due to the cumulative effect of the registration arrangements.
