§ Mr. Denis HowellI have not discussed with the North-West water authority its procurement policy in the context of employment in St. Helens.
Procurement is a matter for the water authorities and their agents who, in deciding which manufacturer's products to buy, properly exercise technical and commercial judgements in the best interest of their consumers.
However, as a matter of policy I have, from time to time, urged them to purchase supplies and equipment from British firms whenever it is economic to do so.
