HC Deb 22 November 1978 vol 958 c654W
Rev. Ian Paisley

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what are the most recent figures available for the infant mortality rate and birth of handicapped children in Northern Ireland; and how these figures compare with similar figures in other parts of the United Kingdom.

Mr. Carter

In Northern Ireland the infant mortality rate was 17 per 1,000 live birth in 1977. In the same year the number of children born with congenital malformation was 608.

Figures for other parts of the United Kingdom are a matter for the appropriate Secretaries of State.
