§ Mr. Norman Atkinsonasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will set out in the form of a statement the telephone facilities at the disposal of taxpayers when they seek to query or 648W generally contact PAYE centers in regard to their income tax.
§ Mr. Robert Sheldon, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 16th November 1978; Vol. 958, c. 325.], gave the following information:
There are no special telephone facilities available to taxpayers dealt with in the inspector of taxes offices set up by the Inland Revenue in a number of provincial towns to deal with the PAYE work from parts to London. Some of these offices do have a Freefone number, but this is for the use of employers.
Taxpayers in London dealt with in one of these provincial PAYE offices who wish to discuss their income tax affairs should telephone or call at one of the PAYE inquiry offices which exist in various parts of London and which are listed in the London telephone directory under "Inland Revenue". Of these, the four Paye inquiry offices at Finsbury Square, Baker Street, Soho Square and Ebury House in Victoria Street are linked by telex to most of the London provincial PAYE offices.
