§ Mr. Hooleyasked the Secretary of State for Defence if the policing of the United Kingdom's offshore economic zone will continue indefinitely to be the responsibility of the Armed Forces, mainly Royal Navy and Royal Air Force, or if some form of civil surveillance and enforcement is being contemplated.
§ Dr. GilbertFishery protection within the United Kingdom's extended fishery limits is undertaken by the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force, acting on behalf of the fisheries Departments, and by the fishery protection vessels of the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries for Scotland. The Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force also undertake surveillance of, and deterrent patrolling around, the United Kingdom's offshore oil and gas installations on behalf of the Department of Energy; the Armed Forces may also be called upon to come to the aid of the civil power in emergencies. There are no plans to change any of these arrangements.
