§ Mr. Rhodes Jamesasked the Secretary of State for Defence when he intends to announce orders for a new single-purpose high-performance interceptor fighter for the Royal Air Force to replace the Lightning.
§ Dr. GilbertIt is not the practice to indicate when orders are likely to be placed for equipment which is still in the early stages of development. However, it is planned that the Tornado F2 interceptor aircraft should enter service in the mid-1980s to replace both the Phantom and the Lightning.
