asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) what would be the cost of extending entitlement to free spectacles to all recipients of rent and rate rebates and their families;

(2) what would be the cost of extendind entitlement to free spectacles to all retirement pensioners in receipt of rent or rate rebates;

(3) what would be the cost of extending entitlement to free dental treatment and free dentures to all retirement pensioners in receipt of rent or rate rebates;

(4) what would be the cost of extending free dental treatment and entitlement to free dentures to all recipients of rent and rate rebates and their families.

Estimates of the costs of these proposals are not available. However, the existing arrangements for remitting all or part of dental and optical charges for those on low incomes could
