§ Mr. Adleyasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make a statement on the latest preventive measures he has taken against rabies reaching Great Britain from the Continent; and what discussions he has had with representatives of foreign Governments on this subject.
§ Mr. StrangThe Government's objective continues to be to keep rabies out of the country. This is achieved by stringent control measures coupled with a 451W vigorous rabies awareness campaign designed to inform the public of the Government's requirements.
We maintain continuing contacts with foreign Governments and international organisations about our controls and about the measures that they adopt. En addition, everything possible is done to ensure that travellers from abroad are alert to our requirements.
Details of our control measures and our contingency plans are set out in a memorandum which was placed in the Library of the House earlier this year.
