§ Dr. SummerskillInformation on the nationality of prisoners serving custodial sentences is not recorded centrally. However, on 30th June 1978 those serving sentences in Prison Department establishments in England and Wales included 3,891 born outside the United Kingdom and 658 whose country of birth was not known.
