§ Mr. StrangInformation analysed by the Inland Revenue indicates that the average sale price of agricultural land in England, expressed as an index taking June 1970 as 100, was 359 at June 1977. Less comprehensive but more up-to-date information on the price of vacant possession land in England collected by the Agricultural Development and Advisory Service and the Agricultural Mortgage Corporation suggests a further rise of 45 per cent. to the quarter ending September 1978. This would bring the index figure for the period July to September 1978 to 520.
