HL Deb 09 November 1978 vol 396 cc636-7WA
Lord AVEBURY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What instructions are given to immigration officers about the criteria to be applied in judging whether a passenger seeking to enter the United Kingdom who is a EEC national is likely to become a "significant charge on public funds", and whether £25, £50, £75 and £100 in social security benefits respectively satisfy this description.

Lord HARRIS of GREENWICH

The instructions to immigration officers do not mention any specific amounts of supplementary benefit payments. Immigration officers would take into account all the relevant facts of an individual case.
