§ Mr. DeakinsExpenditure on sales promotion by companies which submit annual financial returns under the pharmaceutical price regulation scheme, in 1976, the latest year for which complete information is available, is analysed below. As my right hon. Friend announced to the press in July 1976, the amount of sales promotion accepted as a cost under the scheme is being reduced to 10 per cent. of the value of the industry's sales by 1979. In addition, the cost of certain items, of which samples, other than samples for identification purposes, is one, are no longer accepted as a cost under the scheme.
