§ Mr. Joel BarnettPublic expenditure on capital grants and subsidies to private industry—including agriculture—is estimated to have been about £1,236 million in 1977–78, the last complete financial year, or about £3,385,000 a day; the corresponding figure for 1974–75 is about £1,835 million, or £5,026,000 a day—both years at 1977 public expenditure survey prices.
