§ Mr. Shersbyasked the Secretary of State for Employment what consideration he has given to the effect on employment prospects during the next decade of the development of micro-processors and their use by industry and commerce in ways which will eliminate many jobs; and if he will make a statement on the policy the Government will follow to adapt to the changes which the use of this equipment will cause during the remainder of this century.
§ Mr. Golding, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 23rd May 1978; Vol. 950, c. 502], gave the following information:
The employment effects of technological developments which are the subject of present studies are naturally a matter of great concern to me. The Government are fully determined to ensure that the additional wealth which they create will be used to expand employment in other sectors.
