HC Deb 24 May 1978 vol 950 c626W
Mr. Arthur Bottomley

asked the Minister of Overseas Development if she will give details of the project to provide mobile clinics to India under the aid programme.

Mrs. Hart

Over the next 18 months we shall supply 318 mobile clinics to India intended to help to bring direct medical care to about 30 million people in the rural areas. The cost to the aid programme will be about £10 million.

They will be linked with India's 106 medical colleges, each college operating three clinics. In this way they will also be important in training medical students to deal with conditions in rural areas throughout India.

The vehicles and equipment will be manufactured in the United Kingdom.
