HC Deb 24 May 1978 vol 950 c608W
Mr. Norman Atkinson

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is his latest assessment of the optimum size for district general hospitals; and if he considers any variation necessary according to the characteristics of the district it serves.

Mr. Moyle

District general hospitals are normally planned to provide eventually 600 to 900 beds, depending on the size and composition of the population served and other local factors.
