§ Dr. GilbertThe main provisions of the Armed Forces Act 1976 relating to the trial and punishment of offences came into effect on 1st July 1977. Between 1st July 1977 and 31st March 1978 a total of 1,001 Service personnel were tried by court martial, as compared with 1,186 in the period 1st July 1976 to 31st March 1977.
