asked the Secretary of State for Energy how much coking coal is currently being imported, and from which countries, for use by the steel industry; and how much coking coal was derived by the industry from indigenous sources during each of the past three years.

Mr. Eadie

In 1977, the British Steel Corporation imported 1.2 million tonnes of coking coal, supplied from Australia, the United States, Poland and West Germany.

The amount of indigenous coal used to make coke for the steel industry in the last three years was as follows:
