§ Mr. Leeasked the Secretary of State for Defence what instructions are currently in force governing the making of speeches on political matters by serving members of Her Majesty's Forces; and if different instructions applying to field marshals, admirals of the fleet, and marshals of the Royal Air Force differ from those applicable to all lower ranks.
Mr. MalleyQueen's Regulations lay down the general principle that members of the Armed Forces must not engage in public discussion of politically controversial issues. This applies to all serving personnel, including field marshals, admirals of the fleet and marshals 135W of the Royal Air Force holding current appointments in the Services.
