HL Deb 16 May 1978 vol 392 c300WA
Lord VAIZEY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many Members of Parliament would be elected in England if the number of electors in each constituency were the same as the average number of electors in Scottish constituencies; and how many Members of Parliament would be elected in Wales if the number of electors in each constituency were the same as the average number of electors in Scottish constituencies.

The MINISTER of STATE, HOME OFFICE (Lord HARRIS of GREENWICH)

On this basis, England would have 639 Members of Parliament and Wales 39.
