Mr. Biffen

asked the Secretary of State for Industry (1) what consultations he has had with the Confederation of British Industry concerning the impact of a policy of trade embargo against South Africa on the level of industrial inactivity within the United Kingdom;

(2) if he will make available in the Library a summary of conversations with the Confederation of British Industry concerning the industrial impact of a trade embargo against South Africa.

The Government have discussions with the Confederation of British Industry from time to time on matters which might affect the performance and level of activity of United Kingdom industry including this subject. Such discussions are matters of commercial confidence.
