HC Deb 15 May 1978 vol 950 c81W
Mr. Hooley

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what progress is being made with the inquiry into the accident to the Hunterston B reactor; how long this reactor will be out of commission; and at what total cost.

Mr. Gregor MacKenzie

I am advised by the South of Scotland Electricity Board that the work of the board of inquiry, established to investigate the incident at Hunterston B, is nearing completion. The Board has undertaken to give appropriate publicity to its findings in due course and has already explained publicly how the incident occurred.

I am advised that the reactor involved is expected to be out of commission until the middle of 1979 and that the repair costs are now estimated to be of the order of £7 million.
