Mr. Eldon Griffiths

asked the Secretary of State for Transport (1) how many acres of land are in his Department's ownership in the vicinity of the Northgate interchange of the Bury St. Edmunds bypass and adjacent to the railway line and Fornham Road; how long his Department has been in possession of this property since it was compulsorily acquired; what is its present value as estimated by the district valuer; what steps he has taken to offer it to other Government Departments, statutory undertakers and local authorities or, if they do not wish to acquire it, to sell it to private persons;

(2) how many gipsies are occupying land owned by his Department at the Northgate interchange in Bury St. Edmunds; and what steps he has taken to date to end this occupation.
