asked the Secretary of State for Employment why Mr. Moss Evans will not be appointed ex-officio in place of Mr. Jack Jones for all the various Government appointments held by the latter.

Of the Government appointments held by Mr. Jack Jones, only two were made by my Department. Neither of these was made "ex-officio", that is solely because Mr. Jones was general secretary of his union.
