HC Deb 09 May 1978 vol 949 c483W
Mr. Sproat

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what help he is giving to facilitate the relocation of unemployed bakers in the Glasgow area to fill current vacancies for bakers in the Aberdeen area; and whether he will draw the need for special category housing for such persons to the attention of the Scottish Special Housing Association.

Mr. Gregor MacKenzie

I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that everything possible has been done to inform unemployed bakers in the Glasgow area of current vacancies in Aberdeen and other parts of Scotland, and of the assistance which can be given to unemployed people taking up employment away from home.

The SSHA has already built, or is building, 558 houses in Aberdeen district for incoming workers, and my right hon. Friend has authorised the Association to provide a further 243 houses for this purpose. Applications for such houses from incoming bakers will be considered in accordance with the normal categorisation arrangements.
