HC Deb 08 May 1978 vol 949 c371W
Mr. Freud

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what was the basic container allowance paid in the years 1968, 1972, 1976 and 1977; and what was the average actual cost over half-ounce glass tablet bottles and 100 ml and 500 ml glass medicine bottles in the same years.

Mr. Ennals

The container allowance paid for every prescription—except a "bulk" or oxygen prescription—dispensed by chemists was as follows:

New Pence
1968 0.80 (1.91d)
1972 (January-July) 0.83
1972 (August-December) 1.00
1976 (January-August 1.55
1976 (September-December) 1.80
1977 (January-June) 1.80
1977 (July-December) 2.50

I shall write to the hon. Member as soon as possible in reply to the second part of the Question.
